Great Fire of London

firelondon

Y2 - Great Fire of London.

Children created the houses from cardboard, wooden sticks and straw. Flames were made using card and lots of glitter! The children wrote diary entries on burnt paper. Print-outs of King Charles and some Stuart people and cut and pasted some of the children's faces into the pictures-so it looked like they were the people-the children thought this was hilarious!

Year 5

The main display had written work about different aspects Ancient Greece. The soldiers ( hoplites) forming a phalanx was created by enlarging an image from a book using an OHP, this was then aimed at the blank white paper. The children then traced the image, later painting it and cutting it out. The shields were added by using ¾ of a circle and folding it to create a cone shape. The Greek pots were painted using black and orange, the children used images of Greek pots to help them with their designs.

Year 1/2

We talked about the soldiers in the war and how they thought they must have felt when they were in the trenches. The children then wrote a page from a diary. The children made their own poppies for display. Every year, I walk with some of the children in our local Remembrance Parade and this work coincided with that.

The purpose of this was to contribute to the classroom theme of China, rather than a display of work. On the map display there were pieces of work, but mainly a display of artifacts, then around the dragon were Chinese fortunes.
